5 Minute Presentation Rough Draft

What will I be teaching?
  • I will be teaching the class on what makes an American film a Classic.
Objective
  • The Students will learn the different elements of what makes a Classic American Film.
Procedure
  1. Introduction (Ask the class if they know any films they consider a classic)
  2. Discuss brief history of American Films and show Poster.
  3. Interview Response
  4. Have anyone ask me questions if needed.
Check for Understaning
  • I will try to fit some time to have anyone ask me a question, and I will try to answer their question as best as possible. That is the only way I can really check for someone's understanding.
Resources
  • I will use a poster as a visual, so people who are visual learners can have something to look at at while I am talking. I am a visual learner, so I know this helps alot for me whille I am watching someone present.
Response
1. What made my presentation stand out was that I presented on what would be significant to other poeple. I tried to present something new and something that other people would probably not know about.
2. One of the things that made it difficult for me to present was that I was limited on what I could say because of the time limit we had. Also what I was going to say, I could not use that information anymore. So it was difficult for me to choose what I should present, that i wouldn't need in the future.

Discussion Questions to Consider
  1. What was the most challenging to do in this first presentation and why?
    • One of the things that made it difficult for me to present was that I was limited on what I could say because of the time limit we had. Also what I was going to say, I could not use that information anymore. So it was difficult for me to choose what I should present, that I wouldn't need in the future.
  2. What is the difference between the literal and interpretive in your presentation?
    • The literal was just the facts itself, that had to be relevent to my topic/presentation. The Interpretive  was trying to get my facts to be significant to the audience. In my case, I talked about the Production Code, or Hay's Code, and how films were banned if they showed anything that the Production Code that to be bad for the audience to see. I explained that because of that we have the MPAA, which is in charge of the rating system. Since the production code ended, the MPAA took over and decided to give films freedom but the MPAA has to rate the film.
  3. What will you take from this and apply to future presentations?
    • I will try to be more interactive with the audience in future presentations, because I noticed that people were more interested in the presentation if they were doing interacting with the presenter and the class.
LIA

L- I took the facts from my research that were basically the early history of film and also the different time periods of film. I explained the different time periods and what was significant about them.
I- With the information that I had, i decided to go into detail with a specific topic. I explained the Production Code, that shaped the films during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Since I tried to make connections witht he audiences  knowledge, I thought it would be perfect to talk about the Production Code, because this led to the MPAA, which is the rating system we have today. This would help explain were the rating system came from and why we have it today in films. I thought this would be something new that would be interesting to the class.
A- My goal for the end of the presentation, is to learn as much as I can about films. I want to understand film throught he actor's, director's, and producer's eyes. This will help me understand film in a bigger picture.

    Interviews

    1.  For my first interview, I will be interviewing Professor Fossum. I'm interviewing Professor Fossum, because I was recommended to talk to him since he has experience in the film industry and also teaches film classes at Cal Poly.
    2.     I would ask:
    • "What elements do you find in a great film?"
    • "What does a classic film mean to you?
I would ask these questions because they are relevent to my topic and what I am researching. I want to get other people's point of view of what a classic american film means to them.

    Research Semester #1

    • What is Your Topic?:
My topic for my senior project will be American films.

    • Why Did you choose this topic?:
I enjoy watching films, so why not explore and learn on what makes a classic american film? I tend to really observe and figure out why a certain film is considered a classic. I want to further that research on my senior project. American film is a reflection of our culture and what is going on in our country. Since we are a melting pot in this country of different cultures, I believe our films have that variety that makes them interesting. The Golden Age of Holloywood was the very beginning of these classic films. Those were the good times, even when there was two wars going on! The majority of the films back then were quality films with a meaningful story. I really appreciate films like that and I want to show people what makes a great film so they won't ripped off my bad ones.

    • What do you hope to accomplish after studying this topic all year?
I guess my goal is to share my love for classic films with different people. I want to show people that some old films are not boring as you think they can be. I want to learn and then show the hard work and dedication that was put into these classic films. There are some great films today, but the old american films had more depth and meaning to it then most films today. My goal is to show that to people.

    Service Learning

I am doing my service learning on the school campus. My service learning is in ROP. What I do is I observe the class and watch the students make and edit films. The person I am doing service learning with is Mr.Miller. I usually help out the different groups when they are filming. I also talk with Mr.Miller about films and he often suggests me some films to watch for my independent task. I go to my service learning on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-5:30. What I have learned so far is the group effort and how much time and commitment it takes to make a good film. Even though I have been in ROP for a short period of time, I automatically noticed how much work and time is put into making films.
